@article{, title= {Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity}, journal= {}, author= {US Forest Service, Department of the Interior}, year= {}, url= {https://www.mtbs.gov}, abstract= {Monitoring Trends in Burn Severity (MTBS) – A program implemented in 2005 and conducted jointly by the Forest Service and Department of the Interior to map the location, extent and associated burn severity of all large fires in the United States. The program generates a suite of geospatial data for targeted fires occuring across all ownerships from 1984 to presentand are intended to meet numerous policy, operational and research needs. MTBS is an interagency program whose goal is to consistently map the burn severity and extent of large fires across all lands of the United States from 1984 to present. This includes all fires 1,000 acres or greater in the western United States and 500 acres or greater in the eastern Unites States. The extent of coverage includes the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. README: Downloaded these three directories (composite_data, mtbs_fod_pts_data, mtbs_perimeter_data) from https://www.mtbs.gov/direct-download on March 3, 2025 as part of the data rescue effort for the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. I clicked the download link for the two National Datasets: the Fire Occurrence Dataset and the Burned Areas Boundaries Dataset. I didn't change the Date Range slider, so the time coverage is 1984-2024. These downloads are in the mtbs_fod_pts_data and mtbs_perimeter_data directories, respectively. I downloaded data under the Burn Severity Mosaics tab by trying to select all for the years 2022-2024. Data through 2021 is available at https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog/USFS_GTAC_MTBS_annual_burn_severity_mosaics_v1 (Google Earth Engine), so I tried to download only 2022-2024, but still ended up with data from 2011-2024. These are in the composite_data directory. }, keywords= {Fire, Ecology, USDA, USFS, USGS}, terms= {}, license= {CC BY}, superseded= {} }
